Master Woodcarver Paul Irving
|
Hand-carved Decoys
The first time Master Carver Paul Irving created a wooden duck decoy, the result was "pretty funny looking," he says. But the Hagerstown-area resident loved the challenge and kept at it, turning the hobby of creating wildfowl decoys into an avocation. A technology educator in the Frederick County Public Schools, Irving grew up hunting ducks with his dad. Now he has more than 20 years experience carving decoys of all shapes, colors, and sizes. Daughter Lauren has taken over the painting of most decoys.
